Are Huge Kitchens Overkill?

Today's Wash Post has an article headlined "Chefs at Home," in which White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford says

A super-big kitchen will overwhelm you. It's there, but it's not useful.
I have a galley kitchen in my condo-apartment, about 17 feet deep. Perhaps it's a little bit of kitchen-envy on my part, but I have long wondered if owners of those trophy homes really get that much benefit out of their huge kitchens — y'know, the kitchens where it takes 30 seconds to walk from the range to the "island."
